Cross Season 1: A Promising Thriller

TV SHOW REVIEW

RATING: 6.5/10

Cross had a lot of promise, but unfortunately, it didn’t fully live up to expectations. The series took about three episodes to really grab my attention, and even then, the storytelling felt uneven. While the premise had potential, the pacing and execution never quite hit the mark.

One major issue was the overly dark cinematography, which made it challenging to follow the action and emotionally connect with the scenes. The visual style, while attempting to create a somber atmosphere, ultimately hindered the story rather than enhancing it.

Aldis Hodge brings undeniable gravitas and physical presence to the role of Alex Cross, but the character’s writing left much to be desired. Cross often seemed too easily shaken, missing obvious clues, and his emotional connection with his family felt forced and underdeveloped. The chemistry just didn’t land, making it hard to invest in his journey.

On the other hand, Ed Ramsey’s portrayal of the villain was a standout. His magnetic performance stole nearly every scene, bringing an intensity and complexity that was lacking in the hero’s arc. Ramsey’s character was far more compelling, and he elevated the show whenever he was on screen.

Despite a solid central performance from Hodge and a standout villain, the series lost momentum in its final episodes. The focus shifted to less interesting characters and increasingly predictable plot turns, which dulled the intrigue and made the conclusion feel unsatisfying.

While Cross falters in some key areas, there’s enough potential here to keep me curious about what Season 2 might offer. With a bit of refinement in character development and pacing, the show could still find its footing.
