Daredevil: Born Again enters the MCU as a highly anticipated reboot, attempting to reintroduce the iconic character into a new era of superhero television. The original Daredevil series on Netflix is widely considered one of the best superhero adaptations, so expectations for this reboot were sky-high. While Daredevil: Born Again manages to carve out its own identity, it doesn't quite live up to the legacy of its predecessor.

The series starts off shaky, with noticeable rewrites and reshoots that are evident in the early episodes. The action sequences, while decent, don’t hold a candle to the brutal, grounded combat scenes of the Netflix series. The visual effects, though not bad, take away some of the rawness that made the original series so compelling. The combat scenes, once a defining feature of the character, seem slightly more cartoonish here, which diminishes the stakes.

Most of the new characters don't quite hit the mark, either. Villains like Muse and Bullseye are criminally underused, failing to live up to the intimidating forces they were in the comics. Despite the weaker characterization of the new characters, Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio’s performances as Daredevil and Kingpin are nothing short of sensational. Whenever these two are on screen together, it’s pure magic, and their character progression—especially Wilson Fisk’s—keeps the story moving forward in a meaningful way.

The return of certain characters from the Netflix series was a pleasant surprise and added much-needed depth to the story. Their presence gives Daredevil: Born Again a sense of continuity, making the show feel like a worthy successor. While the pacing picks up around halfway through the season and the acting remains top-notch, the show doesn’t fully reach the heights of its predecessor.

On its own, Daredevil: Born Again is a decent Marvel show, but it lacks the raw, gritty intensity of the original series. With a solid finale that sets up the next season, this show could improve with time. The second season will likely be a better judge of how well this new iteration of Daredevil can evolve within the MCU.
