F1 is exactly the kind of movie you’ve seen before: an adrenaline-fueled sports drama packed with familiar beats. It checks off the usual boxes: the aging veteran, the cocky rising star, and a comeback story set against a high-octane backdrop. But what it lacks in originality, it makes up for with charisma, stunning visuals, and pulse-pounding race sequences.

Brad Pitt shines as Sonny Hayes, a retired driver pulled back into the high-speed world of Formula 1. Pitt’s natural charm and screen presence carry much of the film, making Hayes feel lived-in and effortlessly cool. Damson Idris gives a solid performance as the young and talented Joshua Pearse, though his arc feels a bit underdeveloped. Javier Bardem brings flair to his role, injecting some much-needed energy into the off-track scenes.

Where F1 truly hits top speed is in its racing sequences. Director Joseph Kosinski (Top Gun: Maverick) masterfully puts you right in the driver’s seat. The camera work is kinetic and immersive, and the sound design is nothing short of spectacular; every engine roar and tire screech feels real. You don’t just watch the races; you feel them.

Hans Zimmer’s score is another highlight. He blends ‘80s synth textures with the grandeur of modern orchestration, subtly underscoring the film’s emotional and suspenseful moments. It’s not an overpowering score, but when it kicks in, it satisfyingly elevates key scenes.

Still, the film isn’t without its flaws. It runs about 40 minutes too long, and despite its style and energy, the story remains predictable. There’s a noticeable lack of emotional depth, especially with Hayes’ character, which makes it harder to fully invest in his journey.

In the end, F1 is your quintessential summer blockbuster: flashy, fun, and designed to please. It may not break new ground, but it delivers an entertaining ride worth taking, especially on the biggest and loudest screen you can find.
