Good Fortune: A Charming, Heartfelt Surprise

MOVIE REVIEW

RATING: 7.5/10

I had no idea what to expect going into Good Fortune, and I was pleasantly surprised. It feels like one of those random movies you’d pick up from Blockbuster solely based on the poster back in the day. It blends the charm of Hitch, the whimsy of Bruce Almighty, and the time-loop humor of Groundhog Day. If you’re familiar with Aziz Ansari’s style, you’ll know exactly what to expect—witty, observational humor that lands well.

The cast is very likable, bringing to life relatable characters you either sympathize with or roll your eyes at. What stood out is how the story subtly delivers its themes of hope, perseverance, and the desire for a little divine intervention. It’s grounded and heartfelt, despite the fantastical premise.

Ironically, Gabriel (Keanu Reeves) is the weakest part of the film. His character feels underwritten, and there’s not enough time to connect with him. In contrast, Arj and Jeff’s storylines are far more compelling, giving the film its heart. While the movie occasionally stumbles in conveying its messages, it never feels heavy-handed.

The ending is sweet, leaving a sense of hope and satisfaction, suggesting that everything can work out in unexpected ways. Ultimately, it’s up to the viewer to decide what to take from the story.

Overall, Good Fortune is a delightful surprise—funny, relatable, and heartwarming. It’s a feel-good movie that leaves you in high spirits and reminds us of the little joys and unexpected blessings in life.
