Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die is a quirky, zany, time-travel dark comedy adventure built on a genuinely great concept. It has strong intentions and tackles relevant themes but unfortunately loses its way by the final stretch.
The film often feels like three Black Mirror episodes stitched into one—bursting with ideas, social commentary, and chaotic energy—but lacking the cohesion to fully bring it together. The script is messy, juggling multiple character backstories and thematic threads, sometimes at the expense of the main storyline. Too much time is spent fleshing out supporting characters, while the central narrative feels underdeveloped.
Its AI antagonist is particularly underwhelming, especially given the weight the story places on the threat. The movie also runs a bit long, and a significant portion of the humor doesn’t quite land. At times, the social commentary becomes heavy-handed, leaning into preachiness rather than trusting the audience to connect the dots.
That said, the film isn’t without charm. Where it truly shines is in how it uses time travel to connect its characters in meaningful ways. There are cool ideas sprinkled throughout, along with genuinely fun and entertaining moments that carry some emotional heart. And while the execution may be uneven, the ending avoids the typical time-travel clichés, offering something refreshingly different.
Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die is messy but ambitious—a film full of creative sparks that never fully ignite. It has the bones of something great and gives off strong future cult-classic vibes, even if it doesn’t quite reach its potential.
