Your enjoyment of this film will largely depend on your expectations. If you’re looking for a deeply layered biopic about Michael Jackson that uncovers new insights, this isn’t that kind of movie. Instead, it plays more like a celebration of the King of Pop’s iconic musical career—and honestly, that’s likely exactly what fans are hoping for.
Jaafar Jackson fully embodies Michael, delivering a standout performance, especially during the dance sequences, which are mesmerizing and easily the film’s highlight. Coleman Domingo is also impressive as Joe Jackson, transforming so completely that he’s nearly unrecognizable.
As expected, the music is fantastic, and the emotional beats land effectively. The production quality and direction are top-tier, with Antoine Fuqua’s distinctive style and camerawork capturing the scale, energy, and magic of Michael Jackson’s presence in a way that feels immersive.
That said, the film’s main drawback is its overly sanitized and polished portrayal. It lacks deeper character nuance, feels somewhat rushed at times, and the CGI—particularly the bubble effects—can be distracting.
Overall, this is a highly entertaining film clearly made for fans. It delivers a celebratory experience that leaves you on a high note and might even make you want to watch it again.
