To be honest, I almost walked out of this movie. The first 10 minutes completely caught me off guard with its cringeworthy dialogue, awkward pacing, and bizarre character actions that had me genuinely wondering what on earth I was watching. It felt messy, disjointed, and tonally all over the place. But as the story unfolded, Paul Thomas Anderson pulled off one of his classic tricks — turning chaos into brilliance. By the end, everything clicked, and what started as confusion evolved into a masterfully woven, chaotic, emotional, and action-packed family drama that hits hard.
Leonardo DiCaprio is absolutely magnetic here — hilarious, unhinged, and impossible to look away from. Benicio Del Toro is a total blast, bringing grit and unpredictability to every scene. Sean Penn delivers one of his most nuanced performances in years, and Teyana Taylor continues proving she’s a powerhouse with both screen presence and emotional range. But the real surprise is Chase Infiniti, who delivers a breakout performance that feels raw, honest, and unforgettable.
Visually, One Battle After Another is stunning in IMAX — every wide shot feels painterly, and the action sequences are pure adrenaline. The third-act car chase is an absolute standout: intense, suspenseful, and scored to perfection with a killer soundtrack that cleverly nods to The Wizard of Oz. Anderson’s direction balances spectacle with emotion, capturing both the absurdity and humanity of his characters.
Sure, the film runs a bit long and drags in places, but once it finds its rhythm, it becomes unstoppable. One Battle After Another is ambitious, unpredictable, and deeply cinematic — a wild ride that starts off strange but ends up unforgettable.
