If you’re familiar with Issa Rae’s signature brand of comedy, then One of Them Days is probably right up your alley. It carries the same lighthearted, playful energy that defines her work, blending clever banter with larger-than-life moments and a tone that’s unapologetically fun. It’s that kind of film you watch to have a good time, with the atmosphere being just as important as the plot. The story itself is fairly straightforward, following the familiar beats of a comedy where the characters navigate through a series of chaotic and hilarious situations. At its core, it’s an easygoing romp, and if you’re in the mood for some light, undemanding entertainment, it does the trick.

The plot draws comparisons to Friday, though it leans into even more outrageous and over-the-top antics. There’s a sense of predictability throughout the movie, with much of the humor derived from familiar comedy tropes. If you've seen enough comedies in this vein, you can likely guess what’s coming next, but that doesn’t necessarily detract from the fun. While the narrative isn’t groundbreaking, it’s clear that the film is more about the journey and the laughs along the way than offering something fresh and innovative.

Keke Palmer and SZA play off each other quite well, and their chemistry is definitely one of the movie’s standout features. Their banter is natural, and their performances help elevate what could otherwise be a fairly standard script. That said, SZA’s performance occasionally veers into overacting, especially during some of her improv moments, which can feel a bit forced and exaggerated. While some of her lines and reactions may miss the mark, there are still plenty of moments where her comedic timing shines, providing some of the film’s funniest exchanges.

Not every joke lands perfectly, but when they do, they land hard. The movie’s humor is a bit hit-or-miss, with certain jokes falling flat or feeling recycled, but overall, it delivers enough laughs to keep you engaged. While the film doesn’t break new ground in terms of storytelling or originality, it’s still a fun watch for fans of lighthearted comedy.

At the end of the day, One of Them Days is a worthwhile, easygoing film that doesn’t ask too much of the audience but provides just the right amount of entertainment. It’s ideal if you’re looking for something fun and effortless to enjoy. The predictability and occasional over-the-top moments don’t hold it back from being a solid addition to the genre.
