Skincare: Elizabeth Banks Shines in this Uneven Beauty Drama
MOVIE REVIEW
RATING 6/10

Skincare had a premise that initially sparked interest—Hope Goldman, a famed aesthetician aiming to launch her skincare line, finds her plans disrupted when a rival opens a boutique right across from her store. Suspecting sabotage, she embarks on a mission to uncover the person behind the plot to ruin her career. The beginning was promising, with an intriguing setup, but it quickly became apparent that the writing and direction struggled to create a cohesive buildup to the ending.
Elizabeth Banks shines in her role, bringing her usual charisma and carrying much of the film. However, the writing couldn't quite sustain the plot. The story lacked focus and direction, with the tension between the two rivals not reaching the intensity it needed. The film meanders and loses steam, and the reveal at the end falls flat, leaving the emotional payoff feeling hollow.
The pacing is uneven, and the film drags in places, with key moments of tension dissipating too quickly. The cinematography and score are underwhelming, contributing little to elevate the film. Both are serviceable, but neither stands out in any significant way, leaving the movie feeling more like a missed opportunity.
Overall, Skincare is an okay watch but ultimately forgettable. While Elizabeth Banks’ performance provides some charm, the film lacks the depth and cohesion needed to make it truly memorable. It's a light, easy watch, but it won't leave much of an impression once it's over.
