Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen: A Promising Start That Spirals Into a Bloated, Directionless Mess

This was the most excruciating eight hours I’ve had to sit through. The show feels like the epitome of Netflix writing—messy storytelling, an overly convoluted plot, and absolutely no real payoff. It constantly explains itself through repetitive dialogue, with characters spelling everything out to the point where it becomes frustrating. Instead of trusting the audience, it just keeps circling the same ideas until you’re ready to turn it off.
What makes it worse is how deceptive that first episode is. It actually hooks you and gives the impression that something interesting is about to unfold. There’s a sense of mystery and tension that makes you lean in—but that quickly fades. With each episode, the story becomes more bloated and directionless, stacking ideas without ever fully committing to any of them.
The technical aspects don’t help either. The dialogue is dull and uninspired, the acting often feels stiff and unconvincing, and the lighting is so dark that it genuinely becomes distracting. There are entire moments where you’re straining just to see what’s happening, which pulls you out of whatever tension the show is trying to build.
To its credit, there are brief flashes of potential. Some reveals and horror elements hint at a much better version of this story—one that could have been tense, unsettling, and memorable. But those moments never go anywhere, leaving you with a constant feeling of missed opportunity.
Something Very Bad Is Going To Happen had an intriguing premise and the ingredients for something compelling, but it ultimately collapses under its own weight. It’s bloated, repetitive, and never quite figures out what kind of story it wants to tell.
