Brad Ingelsby just knows how to craft an emotional, grounded, and gripping crime drama. If you’ve seen Mare of Easttown, then you already know the level of storytelling to expect here — it’s not about the “whodunit” as much as the why and how behind every choice these characters make. The mystery is the backdrop, but the real focus is on the people, their pain, and the ripple effects of the secrets they carry.
The performances across the board are exceptional. Tom Pelphrey continues to prove he’s one of the most underrated actors working today — his portrayal is heartbreaking, layered, and deeply human. You can’t help but root for him even as life keeps dealing him the worst hands. Mark Ruffalo delivers one of his most grounded performances in recent years, bringing raw authenticity to every scene. And the non-American cast members deserve serious credit — their accents are flawless and never distracting.
But the real standout here is Amelia Jones as Maeve. She brings a quiet intensity and emotional depth that perfectly anchors the story. You can feel every ounce of her character’s internal conflict and resilience.
The score is another highlight — haunting, emotional, and perfectly matched to the show’s tone. The twists are genuinely surprising without ever feeling cheap, and the themes — guilt, redemption, and grief — hit hard. My only gripe? I wish it had a couple more episodes to fully explore some character arcs and subplots. The finale doesn’t tie everything up neatly, but it ends on a deeply emotional and effective note that lingers.
It’s the kind of storytelling Ingelsby excels at — raw, human, and quietly devastating
