For five seasons, Antony Starr has been one of the biggest reasons to watch The Boys. His performance as Homelander consistently delivered some of the show’s most intense, hilarious, and meme-worthy moments, and the finale reminds you just how much of the series rests on his shoulders. Even when the writing stumbles, Starr never does.

As for the finale itself, it mostly lands, but not without issues. The action is still brutal, the tension is high, and there are enough memorable confrontations to keep things entertaining. However, compared to previous seasons, this final stretch lacked the shocking unpredictability that made the show stand out in the first place. A lot of the major character arcs played out exactly how many viewers expected, making several emotional moments feel less impactful than they should have.

One of the biggest disappointments was the inclusion of the Gen V characters. Instead of feeling naturally woven into the story, they often came across as forced additions who didn’t contribute much to the overall narrative. Considering how much potential those characters had, their involvement felt surprisingly underwhelming.

That said, Butcher’s storyline easily delivers the strongest emotional payoff of the season. His arc carries much of the finale’s weight and gives the series some of its best moments. While this final season feels rushed and uneven at times, it still manages to be an entertaining sendoff. It may not rank among the show’s best seasons now, but it’s the kind of finale that could age better with time.
