The Rip: Not Perfect, But One of Netflix’s Better Crime Thrillers

To be honest, this movie didn’t go the way I was expecting. As far as Netflix originals go, it’s a solid crime thriller. Any time Matt Damon and Ben Affleck are together, you can usually expect a good time. The setup and slow buildup pay off with a mid-film twist, and for the most part, they manage to pull it off.

That said, as is often the case with Netflix productions lately, the dialogue feels overly simplified, the set design looks cheap, and the action scenes are poorly choreographed. Still, the performances are solid across the board, and the film delivers an unexpected narrative message. Overall, for a Netflix movie, this is one of the more watchable entries and ends up being a solid time.
