Together: Grotesque, Stylish, and Best When It Keeps Its Secrets

The premise for Together might sound ridiculous at first, but director Michael Shanks manages to make it work. Dave Franco and Alison Brie’s strong chemistry is what really carries the film.

Their reactions to the phenomenon affecting them—the mix of belief and disbelief—feel natural and convincing. The movie truly shines in its body-horror moments, anchored by grotesque yet stylish visual effects. Where it stumbles, though, is in how much it chooses to explain; the more answers it gives, the less interesting some of it becomes. I found myself wishing it had preserved more of its mystery.

Still, overall, this is a solid watch, especially for horror fans.
